i mean this idea that isolation and cognitive decline are bound together, and so a reduction of isolation is a reduction of cognitive decline. how would you test that?
and if it were true, then the cognitive improvement would not just have nothing to do with specific sites, but also with the internet, right?

i'm starting to realise that this topic perhaps should not be discussed on the forum, not only it does not relate to OP topic, but does not to canoe trips, and so, probably should not keep popping up as the newest thread. and so i will stop myself from engaging in this likely never ending (though interesting) topic. that said, if you want to talk about this topic or similar ones, feel free to pm me any time at all,
cheers david and thanks for your ideas,

remogami "i'm starting to realise......."

May I suggest that you are at an embryonic stage- the no formed formed idea. And that until that potential congeals into the formed idea we continue this "fugueal" fantasy of point-counterpoint. "An Eternal Golden Braid" of "tit for tat"! That requires we suffer "otherness" IE "we are not alone" and that there is an exit to solipsistic slops that isolation feeds us. I just read that Joe Deblasio dropped the groundhog on Groundhog Day and it died! I must remove myself to contemplate the consequences!

Researchers from Lancaster University Management School, the Norwegian University Science and Technology and Trinity College Dublin examined the cognitive function of more than 2,000 retired people from across Europe, and found that post-retirement internet usage is associated with substantially higher scores on tests.

remogami asserted: “This sets it apart from other studies ..."

Other Studies?? Until those "other studies" are named the assertion remains an orphan in need of its parent.

addendum: "Results found that, on average, people who used the internet after they retired were able to recall 1.22 extra words in the recall test compared to non-internet users. However, retirees who used the internet were also more likely to be male, younger, better educated, and have been retired for a shorter period. They also appear to be in better health -- even though they drink and smoke more. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2 ... 100910.htm
