Good morning,

I finally pulled the trigger and purchased this product.

Did some searches trying to find some info on the durability. Can anyone provide some insight as to the durability of the product?

Also, any other tips for using this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Viking

Viking, you will appreciate the addition to your gear collection!

I bought the bug shelter last May and used it a half-dozen times in June. Too early to talk about "durabiilty" - though it is well made and is mostly no-see-um meshing. For the price it is a bargain; I am sure it will be in use for a few seasons!

We put it up using a rope strung between two trees at an eight foot height. The top of the tarp has three loops to thread the rope through. Pegs - either the large plastic ones provided or your own more compact ones - will pull out the sides. We also used 3' or 4' poles to prop up the corners. We put rocks, gear, or logs on top of the one-foot wide shirt on the bottom of the meshing. The shelter was definitely sealed from the outside.

For two paddlers it was an incredibly roomy place to hang out in buggy or rainy conditions - an upgrade from spending more time in the tent or under an open tarp. It would easily accommodate four.

See my post from last year to see some pix of the NoBugZone set up -

Our two piece prior version is five years old, all okay. We open the ends when going off for the day or over night. Chipmunks are smart enough to get in but dumb enough to not get out and climb and freak out pulls the mesh a bit. Have on small patch due to that. The home hardware patch is fine for that. Enjoy your serenity next June.

It is as waterproof as it is going to get! We sat through a half-day rain on Little Missinaibi Lake under the tarp with no issues. Like all "waterproof" stuff it will eventually get treated with a silicone spray when it starts getting "wetted out".

I recently bought three cans of Atsko Silicone Spray at Walmart's to redo our two silnylon tarps; the Eureka will get a refresh when it needs it.

We did not take the NoBugZone along on our Georgian Bay trips last summer - no need in September. But the bug shelter does make us feel better about setting off to northern Ontario in early June!

Thank you for all of the input everyone.

Not sure why we can't get these here in the states - Johnson Camping is only a couple of hours away and I had tried to get the VCS. Some great deals there over the years but not on this. Gentleman at the counter said he was unsure of the reason but that he had plenty of requests.

I was about to purchase the 13 when I noticed the Zone. Cheaper to purchase and the freight to NY was much less. For quite some time I had used a Campmor tarp and hung netting underneath. Worked well enough but after a few seasons it was time to upgrade.

Thank you again!

Viking

I ran seamseal stick over the ridgeline, that's all so far. I sit in the middle and watch the rainstorms with my feet on a barrel and drink in hand. I put shockcord dinglies here and there and a smattering of little carabiners and some lengths of cord. As the wind picks up I go shove another into the ground/rock pile. Eventually looks like a beige daddylonglegs from above I guess.

I've been using ours for 10 to 25 days each season for nearly 10 years now, and only last summer during an intense hour long downpour noticed some water starting to penetrate the tarp. Will have to seamseal and treat before the next spring.

As for the mesh it is surprisingly intact, even with 4 kids doing their best to destroy it over the years. I have one large hole (3-4"), that was my own fault not paying enough attention to the flames coming out of the biolite!

Where did you buy it?
I'm not seeing very many vendors that have it in stock

Eurekatentscanada.com pulled up the list of retail locations in Canada and i had to go through all of them to find one with the item in stock.

Skyview Outdoors had the item in stock.

Good luck.

Product has arrived. Can't wait to use this summer.

Question on the telescoping poles. Do you generally use the ones supplied by Eureka? I thought I read somewhere that they could be a bit sturdier and was thinking about getting a set from REI.

Thoughts on this, or any other options?

Thank you!

Hi Viking1. I have this shelter as well. I really like it.

I don't think poles are necessary unless you are camping in open areas all the time. Just tension a long rope between trees and hang the shelter using prussiks on the ends, a loop in the middle. If it hangs too low, a pole or stick can be used to gain elevation where necessary.
