I did until very recently. I know some people just stuff it and the fly into a bag. I seems to pack just as small as rolling it. It certainly weighs the same. :D . The creases or wrinkles don't seem any more severe than rolling. . It saves a bit of time packing---good idea in rain or bug storm!

Yeah I'm a tent roller... but a sleeping bag stuffer... It never occurred to me to stuff a tent for some reason... but yeah why would it not work? Thanks for questioning something so fundamental! I will try it on my next trip!

I can achieve the smallest size by folding, but I'm a stuffer most of the time.

I stuffed our tent one time on a trip, just to see how well it might reduce in packing size. it seemed to. It was alarming how wrinkled it was setting it up at the next site, but they soon eased out of the fabric once it was all taut and felt some sun. It's funny how habits are hard to break. I just automatically fold neatly. Same with tarps. Never tried rolling. Makes sense given the stuff sack is somewhat cylindrical. I do roll my clothing for travelling. It's supposed to reduce wrinkles.

What do you do with the poles? Usually the bag the tent comes in is meant for the tent to be rolled around the poles! And what infernal packing machine does the initial packing that mere mortals cannot duplicate after the first use. We do roll it anyway but with the aid of three Velcro straps. Wrassling with a wet tent is like wrassling with a wet pig.
If your tent is wrinkled you could iron it... :o

I stuff sleeping bags and tents/awnings.

Used to roll both, never made a difference, much quicker in all cases to stuff. Doesn't affect the lifetime of fabrics, just clean debris off and stuff.

Roll( around the poles) except the fly in a separate bag when wet. Less snags when putting in sack.

Never had problems finding space for sliding poles (carefully) into stuff sack last, but I'll try the rolling thing. I used to roll "cigarettes" so rolling a tent fatty might bring back memories.
Sleeping bags disappear into comp sacks when stuffed.

Haven't used my tent for a few years now that I'm a hammock convert (which I stuff in a double ended sack), but I rolled my TNF Boulder 33 cuz it had semi rigid "eyebrows" over the double doors on the vestibule which wouldn't have unstuffed very well. Also stuff my tarps in double-enders ... and stuff my -7 down sleeping bag/ or quilts into a 10L dry bag though it takes a little effort with the sleeping bag.

I fold & roll tents, not always the same fold before rolling, and stuff tarps.

I am not sure stuffing is good for frail tent zipper longevity; I know the dimensions of the tent bag or Taco sack and aim for a wee bit under that size. With a strategic fold and roll put away I can have all of the tent body corners in one place, and the pieces I want rolled in sequential set up order; ground cloth or footprint, stakes, tent body, poles, tent fly and etc.

I do appreciate good compression stuff sacks, especially for off season sleeping bags. I think those beefier S-bag zippers are built to handle stuffing.

And, screw the wrinkles, this ain’t no fashion show, for my fleece and down and wool clothing, most of which is zipper free, another compression bag.

Compression stuff sacks make a volumetric difference in packing a dry bag.

Roll the tent. Reduces the chance of poking a pole through it. The days of undersized tent bags seem to be long gone.

Tried folding the tent, fly and ground sheet once and then while still frustrated from folding everything 3 or 4 times trying to get it small enough I stuffed everything and have not looked back.
These days the tent and fly get separate bags and the poles and pegs get packed separately. The tarp gets treated the same way. Zippers are always fully done up. Never thought of protecting them but even though it has been 21 years, I can still hear Dad hollering "Is the Go@ Dam# zipper done up" every time i climb out of the tent.
The biggest problem packing up is getting all (and I do mean ALL) the air out of the Thermarest so I can roll it tight enough to get it in the stuff sack.

[quote="Rob H"The biggest problem packing up is getting all (and I do mean ALL) the air out of the Thermarest so I can roll it tight enough to get it in the stuff sack.[/quote]

I start by laying on mine and opening the valve. When no more air escapes, I fold it in half lengthwise and repeat. Then when no more air escapes, I fold the still folded T-rest in 3, kinda "Z" shaped and lay with it under my chest and torso and open the valve to get the last of the air out, then close the valve and unfold. Roll as usual, kneeling on it and squeezing with every turn. At the last turn, I open the valve to purge the very last of the air out as I'm kneeling on the centre of it and pressing on the margins with my hands ... then close the valve and voila!
