this is a LONG post with links at the bottom.
I am the iceberg and he is the furnace EXCEPT, when I have hot flashed. I could not stand the zip/unzip anymore, getting tangle, and poor sleeping, and was looking to go lighter in vol and weight anyway. About 5 years ago we invested in a quilt system, and have never looked back. Both of us are very happy! they seem to breath, so that we are comfortable even in warm weather, and then down to about 0C before we add in a Costco down throw (last year they were made my Eddie Bower and slightly larger and more fill). I always take the throw (it packs really small), as.....I am cold even in summer when it drops below 22 C. No zippers, just one dome fastener at the top. for each of us to deal with. If there is a sudden temp drop, I stuff one of our fleece or down jackets between our shoulders to block and draft when we are side sleeping. In winter, we use the same system, but put our -9 C bags underneath the quilt and sleep in our own bag. Having the quilt clipped down under over the bags, still gives us individual freedom to move but seems to increase the R value so that we are each comfortable without constantly reaching out the fleece blanket we used to each put over top. AND the best part is that it all packs down smaller than our two down bags of -35 and -40 and we don't sweat as much. This seems to be good for us down to about -25 C

I do sew, so before I went to a systems I tried various things to go with the sleeping bag, but I could never get the bottom sheet so that it would not wrinkle for pull off (Or dry as quickly). I research products to exhuastion, and I am tight with a buck, but again, never happier, so worth it. I have put other links below of other systems that have come out since.
We loved it so much, we ditched out old woods thinsilate for 2 more quilt systems that we share between te 4 in the household. The Thermarest Vela (and it not the double) is large enough for the 2 of us when we have to use our old 25" thermarest mats, or if it is really hot out. I also use it as a single because I do a lot of tossing, turning and throwing back the quilt, and I often camp separately from my husband. I do sew, so before I went to a systems I tried various things to go with the sleeping bag, but I could never get the bottom sheet so that it would not wrinkle for pull off (Or dry as quickly). It couples the mats perfectly, and packs to about the size of a very light baseball. I research products to exhaustion, and I am tight with a buck, but again, never happier, so worth it. They all do seem to come on sale in the fall. I have put other links below of other systems that have come out since.

https://www.altitude-sports.com/product ... -tar-09181 great service!). is large enough for the 2 of us when we have to use our old 25" thermarest mats, or if it is really hot out. We did purchase the original fitted sheet in large and xL to fit both 20" son's mattress and our Exped downmatts, and all of the quilts mate with these as needed. The Apogee is the Vela, only instead of down fill it is synthetic.
