Pelican canoes,has anyone ever taken out the center seat and put a yoke so the canoe could be portaged ,also would it be ok without the center support on the keel bar ,thanks

You should be fine with removing the seat and putting a carrying yoke in. It might oilcan a bit without the center post, hard to say, but that will not change the overall performance. Enjoy the pelican, but don't put too much money into it, at some point you might want to upgrade.

Those things weight a tonne - not sure I'd want to portage it honestly.

You can take the seat out.
You do need the centre support on the keel bar though.
Without it your canoe will bulge up in the centre when you are in the canoe on the water. This is oilcanning. (very inefficient and can be unstable)

Use a couple of 1"x2"s and install them in a V shape under the yoke.
Your head will still have room when carrying the boat and the support to stop the oilcanning while on the water will be there.

If I was you I would increase the measurement of the beam an inch or so while you are outfitting.
This will bring the stems up and strengthen the rigidity of the hull and provide even more protection from oilcanning.

There's nothing wrong with this canoe if it's all you have.
Just tweak it a bit.
