So after 2 months of research, test paddling 4 different manufacturers boats, and reading every single word I could find on the subject I finally pulled the trigger two weeks ago and ordered a Swift Prospector 16 in the Kevlar Fusion Laminate for a Spring 2023 pickup.

I popped back on their website today to see how much prices had increased for 2023 and discovered they are now offering a new laminate called "Expedition Carbon".

I watched one video where they talked about it for about a minute but thus far there isn't much online for comparative specs to the other available laminates.

Curious if any experts / insiders / canoe nerds have heard anything further about this new laminate. Have any other companies produced boats in the same material or is Swift paddling ahead of the group on this one?

Any info would help, I may have to change my order!

Thanks forum people!

bought the same boat not long ago, requested same pickup time. red, cloth rails, no skids, no 2tone.
did you get the old price or the new? sounds like you got the old.
will be talking to bill soon, will mention the exp.carbon and report here.
i imagine that the main point of that boat is to be in range of exp.kevlar strength, but lighter, stiffer.

I got in *just* before the price increase, Carbon Innegra H-weave, Carbon Kevlar trim, 2tone, skids. Turns out this laminate isn't so much new as it is "new" to me. There's a "2019 Preview" video on their website where Bill starts off with an Expedition Kevlar prospector.

Swift emailed me some info.

Weight on the Prospector 16 is 40 lbs (as compared to 45 EK / 38 KF / 36 CF)

It carries a $1200 price tag.

ya i think it's been around as an 'addon' to carbon fusion. and they have now moved it to mainline. maybe changed it in some way.
not sure what you mean $1200. list shows it $5200. some serious money.
i think the carbon tech package runs for $1200,
which is the swapping of wooden components for carbon ones.

I meant the Expedition Carbon laminate is a $1200 option on top of the base price of the boat. Exp. Kevlar and Kevlar Fusion are Base + $700, Carbon Fusion is Base + $1000.

hi, so got some info,

it's a combo of exp.kevlar and carbon, with exp on inside and carb on out.
strength wise it's more comparable to kevlar fusion than to expedition kevlar.
was originally (2019 etc) offered as aesthetic option (carbon look/exterior cloth on kevlar boat),
now in mainline as it's been popular enough to promote to it.

specs for this layup are going up today or so https://swiftcanoe.com/laminates/
unless you really like the look i don't see much reason to upgrade.
it's another 2lbs and another $1200 says your checks,
you get: the look, perhaps a bit stronger than kev fusion, perhaps a bit noticeably stiffer.

myself, if i wanted a boat that was aimed at either (or all): carbon looks, or lightness, or stiffness,
i would go 100% carbon.
maybe one day (far from now). by then who knows, boats might be made of spider web or something.
that stuff is as strong as steel, greater tensile strength than kevlar.

goose down for sleeping bags, spider yarn for canoe laminates.
nature knows the way.,
