I have this app on my Iphone. It looks like I should be able to download tracks but I don't see how. Has anybody tried to? TIA

I use this app all the time, an absolute favourite for it's speed and simplicity.
What do you mean by download tracks? If you're referring to importing .gpx files from other GPS systems, I do that all the time. I also use an app called Outdooractive on my Apple Watch to create tracks, then clean them up a bit in .gpx editor before importing them to Topo Maps Canada.

My favourite also for the same reasons.

A friend figured out how to download a track from the Topo Canada app to Google Earth on my PC so here is my interpretation of what he did. I am far from being a tech person so it's quite likely that there are more efficient ways of doing this.

On your phone, on the Topo Canada app, go the Trails you have saved.
Locate the Trail that you want to export.
Tap the "i" (i with a circle around it) - this will take you to the information page for that trail
Tap "Share" at the bottom right corner.
Since I wanted to use it on my PC, I emailed it to myself.
(Note: I see that you can save it to a file on your phone but I haven't tried to get it to Google Earth on my phone so I'll leave that for another time. It's likely similar to the steps below.)
I saved the emailed file on my PC.

Now go to Google Earth on your PC

In Google Earth, click on Tools, then GPS,

Opens a new window:
• Click on the button, "Import from file",
• Import, Waypoints, Tracks and Routes are checked
• In Output, check KML LineStrings.
• I left the Adjust altitudes to ground height on the default setting.

Click Import. It will then go to a screen where you locate the downloaded file eg.“Summit Lk North.gpx file.

Click Open
A window will open, click OK

It will now zoom in and show up on Google Earth automatically!!
I didn't try to figure out how to upload it onto the Topo app.

Hope this works for you.

It’s a great app, simple and useful and somewhat powerful but I find beyond easy stuff it’s not always intuitive.

Put me on the list of appreciative Crawshay Topo Canada app users! It has effectively replaced my Garmin Oregon 450 though I only use it a few times each day as opposed to having it on all day thanks to how leaving GPS on full time drains the iPhone battery.

To upload (i.e. import) the GPX file to your iPhone

1. send the GPX file to yourself in an email
2. on your device, open the email
3. choose to open it in Topo Canada

To download (export) your GPX file from your device to your computer or another device

1. click on the Trail option at the bottom of the (folded map icon)
2. click on the Info icon of the trail or track you want
3. click on the Send icon at the bottom right and send to the destination app you want - e.g. Mail; AirDrop; Messages: Dropbox…

N.B. make sure that file sharing is on.

To check, click on the Info icon (the one to the right of Trail and Distance)

Scroll down and look for Map Management. Make sure it is on - i.e. green dot.

If you don't know about the app and have an iPhone or an iPad with GPS capability, check it out here. You can't beat the cost!

Thx guys,---the first part of the process was quite simple so I have managed to download to my laptop. I then uploaded to Caltopo which I use more than GE. I will give GE a try too though. I will try uploading later as I have some waypts that I would like to see on my phone.

I have a Garmin GPS Map78 but I find the phone much easier to use with its touch screen. I have seen rave reviews posted on here for Avenza. I tried that app a little bit but so far I prefer Topo Canada. Any opinions on Avenza vs Topo Canada? thx

1 - I don't own a smartphone
2 - I use Caltopo a lot

Has anyone given the Caltopo app a spin? Eventually I'll have to own a smartphone and when I trip with others they all have them these days.

In the past I would create maps in Garmin Mapsource and then upload the results to Caltopo. Lately I've been going the other way, creating in Caltopo and them uploading to Mapsource and from there to my GPS.

Yes, I tried it on my phone but I preferred Topo C. I cannot remember the details of why. I use Caltopo a lot on Windows. At one pt I had 3 apps on my phone, incl Avenza but I liked TC the best. Just personal pref I guess.

That looks like my Android app, for those who are on Samsung and the like. That app is awesome: cheap(?), offline maps, and works.

Hmmm--Maybe I have an earlier version or whatever, but mine allows many tracks.

Wotrock, if you have an iPhone you have David Crawshay's iOS app. It is not available at the Google Store.

Yours allows many tracks because it is the Crawshay app and not the free German map app, which is an Android OS app.
