And we are going to cut sections out and replace with lighter brighter material in our normally dark and gloomy Bell Tent, so that maybe we wont have to use a light just to see things even during the day. And maybe it'll even be more inviting to guests! We have also gone a size up (to a 10man) which made a big improvement last year.

Looking forward to this years improvements, and of course to see everyone again.

Andrew

Hello Ol' Winter Camping Friends
It's been a while since I browsed this site. I see everyone is still excited about Deep Freeze and most of the same people are still going out year after year.
Since moving to the Sunshine Coast of BC we haven't been out although I still have all out winter gear. I think its time to break it out this winter and head out into the high country.
Maybe I can entice Sarah and Jesse, or Mark and Danette to come out.
Will stay tuned. :)

I have a few questions;
- can complete strangers come? My son and I and perhaps a couple of friends are considering doing some winter camping and this seems like a fun time.
- I gather this is a relatively family-oriented environment (since I'd be bringing at least one 16 yo)?
- can someone define no chainsaws(*) please? Seems like I'd want to bring one along, not too interested in doing the firewood/tent pole thing by hand.
- what do I need in the way of a sled?
- who organizes this? I have another question I'd like to ask by private message.

Thanks!

Merry Christmas Wheel and welcome to CCR!

- sure, all are welcome
- there will be a a handfull of kids(5-7?) along, ranging from about 8-high school age plus usually a couple university kids on reading week.
- this is a remote location and the train runs every other day so it's been camp practice that 1 chainsaw comes along,Scouter Joe is a log home builder and he brings the saw and either he or I use it, hopefully to minimize any injuries. Firewood and poles are a collective chore, enough is cut for all - folks bring an axe for splitting wood and maybe a bowsaw etc.
-many use homemade 10' plastic toboggans, plastic kid sleds etc - camp is only about 800 metres off the tracks so it's not a long haul
- no real organizer, the dates are set you're welcome to come and enjoy. Everyone needs to be self sufficient and to look to their own requirements (other than the previously mentioned firewood process), that said you'll find everyone is more than willing to lend a hand, offer advice etc
- PM me with any questions you have
Cheers
Sid

Hi I am quite interested in joining deep freeze this year. Was hoping to get involved last year but time constraints prevented me. My major logistical issue is that I do not drive I was just wondering if there is a possibility of rideshare as I feel Greyhound may have an issue with my carry on! I live in North Bay so just wondering if anyone is in the area or passes through? I was also wondering what the approximate cost is ie. Budd Car and any other associated costs? Thanks Joel

Joel, leave this as a maybe. We may be coming from SW ontario in a truck that seats 5. Was planning on staying driving up and staying the night before in sudbury.

Depending on if we go, and how many of us go (might be just 4) then it's certainly possible that we stay the night in north bay and then leave first thing the next morning to catch the train - I guess it's about 2 hours from n.b. to sudbury?

I'll try and firm up soon so that I can commit one way or the other.

can anyone provide me with the map information in order that I may buy a topo map of this area? 1:50,000 is the scale I am looking for.
I have checked other map websites but cannot locate the exact area.
Thank you

You should check out this site. The only problem is finding a printer big enough.

Dawg-house update: Shirley wants everyone to know, that if they would like to bring something to the Thursday Wine & Cheese, we are turning it into a Pot Luck "Social".

Hope to see everyone in Sudbury on the 16th. (or later)
