I really like the idea of a campfire or Baker tent for winter use, but I question how well the design would work with a heavy snow load. Looks like you've done a great job and it sure looks cozy in there! Did you have any issues with the plastic melting near the stove or anything? |

Hi Steve Here on the south shore of Nova Scotia we do not get much snow so I have not had to deal with that issue. My thoughts are to add a couple of pole/branches down the back slope of the tent that I could tie the tent to for extra support. I have not had any problem with plastic melting. I use 3mil vapor barrier and it works well. Where the pipe vents out I use a piece of welding cloth that wraps around a pole. Dan |

I used a Campfire Tent once in the snow belt area near Lake Superior. We got a lot of snow melt on the canopy and it melted from the stove heat and pooled on the rather flat roof so we had to keep dumping the water off. The water that ran down the back froze into a heavy layer of ice. We had a devil of a time trying to roll and pack the tent in the morning. Certainly setting it up with more pitch on the canopy would help, but I doubt that even that would shed snow. It's not a ideal winter rig, but it is a great outfit for spring and fall canoe trips. |
