Anyone have any ideas on the ice thickness up near Dorset-Algonquin. We had that wonky warming period but lows are back down in the double negatives. Just wondering if anyone in the area can comment on the ice thickness. I'm planning on hitting the trails and lakes for some snowshoeing this weekend. May just stick to the trails if it looks iffy

I have some buddy's in the area of Haliburton and just North of that, the word last heard from them was all about idiots on the ice.........iceholes!

Radio stations are saying stay off...

As an aside the rain they just had offered some kayakers playtime.......

Things arent as bad as people would have you believe; I live on Pigeon Lake, Northeast of Peterborough, and was out on the ice last night.

There has been ice in front of my house since before Christmas and it is now about 8" thick. The main body of Pigeon - a huge body of water - stayed open until early January, but is now firm.

Now that all the snow is melted, there is no insulating layer on top of the ice, so ice is forming quickly now that we have cold nights.

I'm comfortable going out for my nightly walk on the lake, and don't consider myself an idiot... :D

The ice was definitely solid. 8 inches thick up in the Frost Center. Open at river mouths and creeks though.
