Last weekend we spent 3 days snowshoeing and winter camping in the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site. We started at the Coon Lake access point and made our way north crossing the 1250 m portage trail into Little Turtle Lake where we set up base camp. The next day we we trekked into Adams lake, Sawmill Lake, Shark Lake and Vixen lake. Although it's been a cold winter we lucked out with daily highs of -5 and nightly lows of -12. It was a great opportunity for us to try out some new winter gear including a new 4 season tent, cold weather sleeping bag and a great R5.4 sleeping pad that kept the ground chill out! We also tried out our home-made sled pulling rod system that worked fine once we figured out the weight balancing issues in our sled. Here's a short (under 2 min.) video of our exploits. Enjoy
