Going to do a trip to the Slate Islands (lake superior). I know there are lake trout and salmon patroling the water around the islands. Since superior is quite cold, am I right in thinking that spoons(casted)and deep diving body baits(trolled) will get down to the trout without adding a lot if any extra weight?.

Trolling is good but we had our best success vertical jigging with spoons. It seemed like a strange technique (I'm not a serious angler) but it really worked for lake trout. There's an excellent spot to fish at the NE entrance to the inner harbour. Also had good luck all along the north shore of Mortimer Island. But I imagine the fishing is good everywhere. June/July is best before things warm up a bit and the fish go deep, though I imagine with the ice coverage the water will stay cold well into August this year.
