My wife loves to fish. But hates spinning reels and is afraid of bait casters. She wants a regular spincast reel any recommendations for a good one to handle bass. I am trying to convince her to use a bait caster but no luck yet. Thanks

When I was as kid I used to watch the Bassmasters on TV all the time. I remember one guy using a big, cheap, Zebco spincast to win a tournament. He was using it it to flip jigs into heavy brush so apparently they can handle it.

And why doesn't she like the spinning reel?

Spinning reels are way less frustrating to use than a spincast reel. If it is the 'trigger' that you are looking for then a cheap Shimano spinning reel can give you that.

Think only the Spirex model by shimano has the auto cast feature . I have an older model with it and it has been a great reel for 30 yrs.

if she likes what she likes, and it gets her out then shop a BP or similar in your area or local tackle store. I wouldn't find this to be the place to cheap out however. You want smooth and precise trigger. Best if she shops with you - and educate herself about fit in the hand, weights, etc.
