Must be a lot of pot smokers in this Province.

Anyway ... if I see one out there in my travels, I will invite him over for dinner.

Careful Mac! If he or she is of the Wendigo kind, you should know that they are lusting after human flesh.... :o

I would be more concerned about the safety of the Sasquatch... not the dog. Do Sasquatchs climb trees?

And Erhard... you are right..... that "lusting" could be a problem for me, if it was a lady Sasquatch...

A fine example of what happens when the population density of a province allows village idiots to contact each other.

Don't be so sure about your ridicule gentlemen. There are many strange things in the northern woods. Be they fact or fiction, corporeal or spirit, I for one don't feel secure in passing judgement.

Here's 14 pages of reading for you.

I'll gladly make fun of it. Funny we can find remains of humans from millions of years ago, yet cant seem to find a skeleton of these" living" creatures.

I understand wendigo being ripe in the old times. People eating a family member due to starvation or just going out in the woods and never coming back had to be explained. To basically provide closure to families.

As for "big foot" all I keep seeing is bubbles beating rciky with that rug on his back on the trailer park boys.

I grew up in the land of the "old hag" and "the fairies" both mythical creatures. Heck the fairies led people off cliffs! They certainly didnt jump cause their lifes sucked!

Havent seen "cressie" yet either...

Oh dear...heres actual footage of a bigfoot. Add in hysteria and viola!

Ok Watersong.

How about the dragons of Early england? Where are all those dragons? Under M5 motorway? I think not.

Where's the proof?

I am not trying to insult someone's beliefs. Fact is if you choose to believe that Moncton NB had underground elf's by all means believe that. Just don't expect the rest of us folk who deal with HARD facts and all that other stuff to follow along.

There I bit your bait have a nice night. Watch out in under your bed, I hear there are things in under there.

So the looong winter starts.

Happily I plan for my next canoe trip which involves alligators but not sasquatchi.

Is this the best we can do?

I don't know, I was stuck in a sauna with a bunch of beer and a couple of guys tonight planning our next man-hauling winter trip...but it is a canoe forum, not a winter camping forum...so here are my thoughts.....

When one ridicules something, it's a good idea to get the facts straight. The Wendigo is only confused as a sasquatch by folks who haven't spent much time reading Northern stories. The Wendigo, as I understand it, is a cannibal spirit, usually possessing people in the winter. It is not generally seen as an independent entity. The Manasoocan, on the other hand, is an entity that is sighted fairly frequently by folks north of Thunder bay. Tall, hairy, bad smelling man thing with red eyes......have spoken to people who claim to have seen it. They weren't pot smokers, more like 75 year old grannies who were very lucid and could outwork most men I knew.

I haven't seen one, but in the same spirit, I know of a lake just north of the Ogoki bridge which is reputably inhabited by the memagwaysic, another creature which falls into the same realm as the manosoocan. Outfitters abandoned their post due to constant harassment. I'm going to take a trip up there this summer, check it out.

I think it's a great winter topic for discussion....I'd like to know if anyone had any strange experiences at Cliff Lake......cultures aren't dead just because we think they are.
