Winter training home 1980
Withlaccoochee River
and Fl 48
Bushnel Fl.
Stayed there for 3 months...
Was training for the 1980 Olympics (which Can. boycotted)
Spent a lot of summers with that truck and tent.
Wish I had that big tent now for winter camping!
We called the truck the
"Great green gas eater"
8 mpg in the city, 12 on the hwy..... :o
Ended up with over 500,000 miles on it.

Thanks for that littleredcanoe.
We camped in the swamp just south of Inverness. (first map link)
That is the year I first met Greg Barton
http://www.teamusa.org/usa-canoe-kayak/ ... reg-Barton
Back then you could tell he was on his way.
I have to admit that I have been very lucky to have competed/trained (and had my @$$ handed to me by the best in the world at that time.
Good times.
But for those wondering if it is worth the paddle,
Great area, tons of wildlife (had an eagle take a bass right in front of me, paddled over top of gators :o )
On the list of go back to places with the camera!
Jeff

I guess I better resize 300 photos...We spent the month of May ( mostly) paddling in FL.. I dont think its possible to ever do all the rivers even if you are full time. However its rather hot in FL in the summer...

Free access, paddling friendly access, and low cost camping allows one who does a budget correctly to afford Ontario Provincial Parks.( me we spent our wad on Marine Atlantic)

Ahhhh but the ride on Marine Atlantic is rewarded with some incredible eye candy on the other end.
When you going?
It is quite the iceberg season right now.

Make sure you go to Fogo. Little Fogo islands are spectacular if you can get there.

Littlered I sent you a message but the message system seems a little funky so lets us continue to hijack the thread.

On the Bonavista Peninsula there is a small town called Elliston on the east side.
Typical pretty Newfoundland town but there is a neat island there.
http://www.townofelliston.ca/

South Bird Island, I haven't paddled there yet but it is on the want to list.

There is a municipal park with camping and electricity by the beach and Harbour.
There are also some B & B's. WE camped (trailre) in 09 and in 11 we stayed at a B & B with it's own kitchen facilities. on Route # 238 just before the hill going down into town. (south part of 238, 238 loops up to the town of Bonavista)

About 3 k from the town beach.
There is also another beach just south of there called Maberly, there just might be access there and that would be about a 2k loop around the island.
I didn't go down that far. We watched puffins from the lookout.
The Puffins still might be in the area, but that I don't know when they leave.
(my wife has a puffin fetish)
Jeff
ps and yes if you paddle through the centre of the island I will be very jealous! 8)
