True. Still the perspective from here: If it's pissing off liberals then it must be good. Even tweeting....

It's hard to believe that anybody could have watched his antics in the last while and still think he's a good prez!!

Nothing at all to do with the poster's question but it seems the thread needs a little lightening up. Enjoy. All for fun

To give you an example- Many people here hated Obama.
Bears Ears national monument is a very sensitive issue. Trump has
moved to try and over turn it or at least greatly shrink the size. This is seen
as great.

During a campaign rally on Tuesday, in Phoenix, Ariz., Trump said he didn't think the U.S. could make a deal, and would end up "probably terminating NAFTA at some point, probably."
To which Hamilton ON mayor Fred Eisenberger replied,
"The only thing that needs to be terminated is your presidency," Eisenberger wrote. "Save yourself and your country. Resign and you will be popular everywhere."

Rob I didn't read Martins comments that way.. DT won mostly IMO because a third of eligible voters didn't vote. It really was an evil race and votes based on the lesser of two not popular candidates. I think fairy dust got into the Republican voters eyes to some extent and they now regret having voted the way they did.

I live in a very RED state and disagree with your last comment. People here think he is doing a fantastic job. The perspective from living in a very red state seems much different than yours.

I had to look up what the term "red state" means. (We seem to use the colours differently in Canada).
I understand that some people feel that "he is doing a fantastic job". That is just my problem. I am puzzled. I don't understand. I would really like to understand why they think that it is good. I can't find anyone to explain it.
I wonder if the people of Texas feel the same way about Trump's environmental policies now. (or Louisiana. )

BTW I live in a red state too. But I can see big differences in Western red states
We have had no public radio but a barrage of Rush Michael Savage Joel Osteen and the like. There are only Christian sermons or country music on.

And Christian news SRN
It's been a lovely summer out of touch

Trump really can't lose on the NAFTA thing, unless he really does do something stupid like cancelling it and starting a trade war.
He says NAFTA is a terrible deal (without providing solid non-cherry-picked evidence to support that claim) and he, using his great deal-making skills, will get a better deal for the U.S. of A.
He'll simply claim that any changes made to the agreement are the result of his wondrous ability and are great for 'murica (without providing solid non-cherry-picked evidence to support that claim).

We're in a post-fact world.

Sorry- thought you were in the NE US (i.e. Maine from your signature). Being out of touch is making me jealous.

I am. But our district went red. Maine ergo split their electoral college votes down the middle half red half blue
Donald Trump actually cane to the mill towns around us to rally the disenfranchised

I didn't go

Since you put it that way, I guess I live in a blue state since my neighbor and I voted democrat  . Maine 3-blue to 1 red this election and all blue for a long time = a blue state. Now Utah (where I live) really is a red state. What does this have to do with OP? One thing related to this forum is public lands. The west has lots of federal public lands (unlike the east: Maine for example less than 1%, Ut-64%), and the Utards really hate that. They feel it should be controlled by the state, and believe that the republicans are for less federal gov. interference (in a general sense) and will let Utards have more control of federal land in Utah. However even here people are getting a bit tired of Trump's behavior.

I know that it is difficult for us to have a discussion about the current situation in the US without it becoming political but I think that we should try.
Would someone living in the US please try to explain to the rest of us, how the US governing system is really working "to make America great again". This should be done in a non-political manner if at all possible.

I started this discussion with the quote above. I still don't understand how the present state of your government can be thought to be working in any sense in a constructive manner- either internally or externally.
Now today I read that the president's approval rating is 40%. How could that be? Would someone in the 40% help me out?

About 10 months ago I was puzzled about the government of the US and how its policies were affecting Canada. I had hoped that someone could direct me to someone or something that could explain to me why they believe what is happening there would "make America great again".
I am even more puzzled and worried now.
Again I emphasise that I would like this done in as non-political manner as possible.

The reason why we have our current president can be squarely blamed upon the previous idiotic "leader" of the US. His socialist anti-American policies and weakening of the military (and thus the entire country) and his apologizing to the world for the success of this country pissed of so many people that a change was clearly in order. True American patriots do not take lightly to such antics or to those of his political followers. Ask SecState Kerry what he admitted he did with his Vietnam service medals and awards (hint: look in the trash can) Mr. Trump would not have been my first choice of primary candidates originally in the race, but given the alternative at the final ballot box, he was the only choice to be made for me and those other "irredeemable basket of deplorable" voters as chanted by a liar and traitor of a challenger.

Last year, as a direct result of a vastly increased stock market since the election, I was able to make the trip north by driving through Canada to the Yukon for a canoe race. Nearly a month in Canada, I spent thousands of dollars on and during the trip on travel, lodging, and restaurants. I Should I have worried about my car and expensive canoe I carried on top with my license plate from the US? This year I also have enough funds to purchase land on a private lake and begin to build a cabin where I can paddle without going to Canada.

After watching the military's sharp decline over the previous 8 years with many increased fatal accidents of ships and planes, due to cut backs in maintenance and training, finally they are getting the much needed funding in those areas. My son, a fighter pilot, is safer now.
