Flying out to drive home with our youngest from his job in N. Sask. I will land in Regina at 9 ish and have the day to kill with no vehicle. Recommendations on what to do, how to get there, and where to stay that night?
Headed to Grassland Nat. Park- 1 night West and 1 night East, then headed home. Anything we should stop to see, and places to stay (we will have a tent + hammock tent, tarp, single burner stove, 1 pot, sleeping bags and mattress) open to good tent camping or having a roof. Thinking of not heading up to the Trans Canada.
Would prefer not to stay in Winnipeg again. Once we get to Emo, Fort Frances and T. bay we have lots of relatives to see and they will put us up. Will get one night in at Pukaskwa.

Riding Mtn NP would likely be worth a stop on the way home though that is north of the TC. If you are coming along the border you could stop at Turtle Mountain Prov. Park. Drop by the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach on the way through, there is camping at St Malo PP.

Regina has an IMAX theater. That's one thing I've done to kill time there before. Wascana lake and the legislative building are a nice area. The royal Saskatchewan museum has dinosaur fossils, and maybe the biggest T-rex in the world.

Have you been to Grasslands before? I recommend you bring binoculars. There're few obstructions to your view, so when wildlife is present, even if you spook it, you can watch it for/from a great distance. Bison roam the west block. You may get pretty close to them. I may be able to answer other questions you have.

Well east of the east block is a region called the Big Muddy Badlands. The Sundance kid and the wild bunch gang used that area to hide in caves and gullies from lawmen. Not sure if Butch Cassidy himself was there; I should read up. There isn't a well defined "destination" as it's not park land and all privately owned, but a natural place to stop, off the beaten path, is Castle Butte.

Here's a route you might take if you want to avoid Hwy 1.

Thanks! Will look into everything.
What is the best way to get around Regina? We won't have luggage but will have to very full day packs- any thoughts where to store them. Looking for a place to stay in Regina as will if anyone has recommendations.
.Will book Grasslands (although can't seem to figure out if we need a Parks pass for the 1 night west and 1 night east). Then we will head across the Red Coat Trail. We won't be crossing the border this time, and the "kid" has been to R.M twice, so we will pass, as we are on a tight timeline

Hey Cheryl
Regina sucks, I’d consider renting a vehicle for the day. You could get around well on bikes but I’m not sure there are any businesses that do that.
One of the hotels on South Albert would be the closest to the good stuff, Wascana Park/Legislative buildings, and close to the airport.
The Fairfield inn and suites would be a good choice, it’s only a few years old.
Check your PMs!
