Hello, can anybody tell me something about this tiny littel boat? I was offered one and have to decide whether I buy it or not. I shall look at it on Saturday...
Please anybody help me in my decision!

I had fun in the one I paddled... It rolled easy. But as Gail said, it is a small person's boat, but it's pretty solid in complex currents.... it's a little Rival in my book. Typical Bob Foote boat. I found it sort of odd combination... it's small but not real hard chined, so it's not really a park and play boat surf til your silly boat, but it's too small for running big water (atleast for me.)

I think I'd buy it for my significant other Laura for playing on waves...but wouldn't be my personal choice of playboat. I'm sure the C-boats folks can fill you in more.

When the boat first came out there was bit of a cult following as Mike Yee promoted the boat here in Ontario. That said there was another camp of the likes of Andrew Westwood & Paul Mason and many more that did not like the boat... I was in that camp.

As any boat goes it has its good points.... fast for its lenght, turning ability. Its bad points.... it has NO secondary. So you better have a bomb proof roll if you plan on paddling this boat in tougher water or enjoy counting fish.

As mentioned its great for smaller pallers.... so great its was a boat that I was going to cut down for Aliesha first solo boat before I designed the Splash.

I had a phantom for a while.

It didn't really work for me for a couple of reasons:

1. It was my first time paddling anything smaller than a prospector
2. I had no instruction on paddling solo playboats
3. My training ground was the gull river
4. I am not a smaller paddler (6'2" -210)

So I sold it and bought an aftershcock. That boat was the opposite of a phantom. Slow, wet and stable. I recently sold that and bought a zephyr, MUCH better boat for my level of paddling.

So if you are under say 165lbs. and a fairly good paddler, you might have fun in a phantom. If you are a bigger guy make sure your skills are up to it, and you paddle it first.

Well, despite all doubts I finally bought the boat. Thank you for all the advice!
Its not really easy to get at a used ww-canoe in Germany. And the boat is in good shape (and wasn't very expensive). If I do not manage to get along with the boat I will be able to sell it at least without loss.
Havn't paddled it yet. Only stored it in the boathouse. I will start training in the swimming-pool on friday...

Hey Axel....looks like a good boat....based on your logic I figure it's a smart move. Everyone has their own reasons and needs. Even if it's not the boat for you it will build your skills and a lets face it...even Al and Dan will agree that a tupperwear container and a stick for a paddle and getting out on the water is better than a day at work.
You shoud come over to Ain't louiefest some year.
