Interesting Read.....because it was a good outcome to a bad situation. In the Rescue for River Runners course they say that you're not supposed to transition between rescue and recovery mode until an hour has passed. An air pocket in moving water, as this chap Phil reports, reaffirms for me not to give up.....though his duration was a much shorter period of time than an hour.

Good paddler on a comfortable class 3. Could happen to anyone. Keep your feet up! Whether these scenarios end well or badly depends on all kinds of ifs, buts and luck, but as a group you need to be prepared enough to give yourselves a chance!

I should take another river rescue course (and paddle more!)!
