May be a bit off, of the "Boat Design & Construction" theme.
But oh well, we can call it canoe equipment.

Any one know of (bamboo) "fly rod" construction?
"How to" Web sites?
Builders?

Happy Holidays
Doug

My younger brother is a fly fisherman. He does lots of fishing and doesn't catch many fish but says the real fun is in fooling with the equipment. He tried to make or maybe did make made some cane rods and said his biggest problem was getting the right adhesive. Don't know if he succeeded but if you'd like I will ask him.

If all fly fisherman are like him you won't have any trouble finding some one to tell you all about it......... HMMM Kind of like canoe builders. :)

Confession,
I know nothing about fly fishing.
Tryed it twice when I was in high school, years ago, and I've seen the movie "A River Runs Through It".
I've got a nice graphite rod, a fairly large tackle box full of lures and other fishing stuff.
But I think it is more like "over compensation" for my lack of fishing abillity.
I'm not sure that I could even successfully clean a fish.

This is a similar feeling to my early days of cedar strip canoe / kayak building.
My wife is going to freak out.

I've aready got my friend nervous, .....he grows bamboo.

Can across this web site in my travels.
Check out "streamside rod building" near the bottom.

All the best,
Happy Holidays,
Doug

Can be rather pricey to do from what I understand. Also I think there is an initial investment for certain tools and such that would be a wais of money unless you plan on making many. I think it can still cost you a few hundred to make it yourself especialy if you are buying the blanks from somewhere instead if splitting the cane yourself. (for instance I beleive you can buy many of the rods that Sage and others make as blanks and add the snake guids and all yourself) I've also heard that it takes half a dozen or so before you turn out anything decent. If you don't flyfish how will you know?

Actually the only major price is the rod blank itself but I never tried flyfishing. I would get it caught in the trees behind me or if I do find an open space there would be no fish
