Looking for ideas and websites for an "accent stripe" on a (future) solo canoe.
Are there any good "how to" websites out there for the building of accent stripes?

In the past I have used contrasting colour (ash & cedar) strips to make my accent stripes.
I'm looking to "bump it up a level" on the next one.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug, I just returned from the trip down under... In the museum in Wellington, NZ I looked very closely at the exhibit of a canoe the the native Maori apparently used to take to sea.
In short, the canoe consisted of the bottom piece - a floor-, two side boards kept apart with the seat-un twarfs (about 20 of them!), and the stern / bow pieces. All this was stitched and pitch used to seal.
Now the interesting part - the side boards- are carved. The stern and bow piece is sculpture and art piece on itself. Motives on the carvings are repetitious - and symetrical with the rythm of the seat locations.

Perhaps there is a time to have a "special strip" thats prepared before hand, and stencil some motif on it, then use heat - say a solder gun to go over the lines to have it permanently embedded ito wood!

The motif could be either original - what a project- / or copy some geometrical, computer generated graphics (just an idea).

Mac McCarty has a page on the net somewhere. I was not able to find it.

Here's a good
one by John Michne:

That should kick it up a notch.
