That looks good. I like the idea of laminating in a pattern at the top of the blade, I haven't seen that before.

oh, and I think Otis is saying "Can we go for a walk now, please?"

Since you mentioned doing a child sized Beaver Tail, how old is the child that you are using the 6"X20" paddle for? I'm hoping to put at least one paddle together this spring and I was thinking a little smaller surface area than that.

Splake

She is 12 and has been in a canoe for about six seasons, is 4'4" at about 60 lbs.

The paddle weighs in at 20 oz. and has a blade area around 90 sq. in.

For children it's a long reach from the centre of the seat to the water and it's very seldom that the paddle gets fully sumerged.

Anyway, things to consider.

90 sq. in. sounds fine, I had done the math quickly and hadn't thought about the rounded shape of the beaver tail paddle at all, so I'd been thinking 120 sq. in.

I've had my 8 year old thinking about his paddle design, we have it drawn out, now I just need to get a blank glued together for him. Part of the discussion has been paddle width, right now I think we're talking about 6 1/2" by about 20" for the blade. I don't think he's totally settled on the blade shape yet.
