I am coming into the final stretchs of my Osprey.

Question?
Any need to sand the bare cedar down past a 120 grit sand paper?

I wouldn't. But there is alot of discussion on this subject. I maintain 80 is sufficent for applying the first coat of F/G and epoxy. Itis when I am starting to apply varnish that I get down to 220 grit.

I never sanded further but I always built fast. So long as you sanded with the grain I think it will come out OK.

On the other hand, I know some perfectionists who do fabulous work and sand further. They even wet the surface down with water to raise the grain and sand that off. I once owned a Martin Step built Winisk that was lovely but I could hardly bring myself to paddle it.

I don't go past 120 anymore, used too, but got smarter, or lazier...anyway, can't notice a difference.
