It appears that white lead is forbidden in Canada. What does one use in place of that for canvas canoes?

Temagami Canoe Company still uses white lead in their canvass filler. They offer a no-lead version, but that voids the warrenty.

Since when is lead illegal in Canada?

Unleaded fillers are readily available. Some use copper naphthalate for a fungicide instead of lead. One approach is to use treated canvas, or treat the canvas yourself with a fungicide before using the unleaded filler.

You may find a supplier close to you here:

I just used the real thing (shhhhh, leaded filler) on a canoe and I gotta say I like how it went on.

Now, how do I get rid of this nervous twitch....? :o

If I might enquire, where did you get the "real thing"?

I don't know fitzy's source of lead filler, but his Chestnut Prospector is a sight to behold...

Sorry, been out paddle'bout for a few days.

I don't know about the logistics of shipping across the border etc., but here is a source of both leaded and unleaded.
