If you're at the point where you're thinking about skid plates, it might be time for them. There are very few downsides to them, and with skid plates on you'll feel that much more secure on the water. (Especially in rocky Ontario) Putting them on the bow and stern ends is fairly simple (about an hour), and if you don't want to do it you can have it done at a local paddling shop for around $40. They'll use a kevlar fibre sheet and match the gel coat quite well. Either way, happy paddling!

well I think we've pretty much decided we will repair the gel coat - I mean we are talking very minor cosmetic scratches (burgundy boat scratches pinkish) - maybe skid plates in a few years. We try not to ground her too much.

wonder if I should photograph the stages of the repair and post it here for others to see? any thoughts on that?

I also think this would be a good idea.
