I need to replace the wood gunwales on my 16' canoe. I want to buy gunwales that are ready to go and not have to make my own. I will be in the Peterborough/Orillia/Hamilton triangle in June. Know of any canoe shops that will sell wood gunwales?

Noah's has power saws if any modification is needed (eg. thinner gunwales), Monaghan lumber too.

Ash or cherry, scuppered or solid at Noah's in Etobicoke:

Canoe gunnels available at Monaghan lumber near Peterborough... download the PDF for info.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It was convenient for me to go to Hand Crafted Canoes (near Kitchener) and buy the gunwales. They were a reasonable price and I got great service. They created a solution so that I could carry them on the roof of my van. They also provided me with information on how to install and protect the gunwales.

Roger has done new custom wood gunnels on several boats I have had, with excellent results. He also does great fiberglass repairs on kevlar and fiberglass canoes

Recently I needed new gunnels for a Swift Sheerwater canoe. I went to Handcrafted canoes in Breslau Ont (near Kitchener)

new metal gunnels for a lot less than Swift would charge for them
