I recently came across a 17' Chestnut Sailing canoe. It has most of rigging with it but no actual sail with it. I am hoping to find some original diagrams of the canoe with all of the rigging. I have looked aroud the web and have not been able to find out anything yet. Does anyone know where I could find this info??

That looks a whole lot like the 18 footer that we picked up a while back. The only inidcation of it being a sailing canoe was the thwart with the mast hole cut in it. We originally thought it to be a Kildonan ( made locally in Winnipeg) but it was just not quite right for one of them.

Oddly enough though, ours has tapered ribs which just baffles the heck out of us.

Here is a picture of Douglas Ingrahm (Red River Canoes and Paddles) working on a 20' Chestnut, he might be able to help you out.

The back end of that one looks very much like ours with the smaller transom than what a Kildonan has. Andre figures ours is a Pete/chestnut.

And as an aside, yes Doug does mess about with sailing canoes. In fact we traded him the sailing rig of our Canadian for some project he was working on. He wouild likely have some idea of what a chestnut sail should look like.
