It's certainly isn't a kayak but I just wondered if anyone would take a shot at identifying the design?

Looks like a kayak-boat.

The pronounced bulge at the bilge near the centre makes me think it might have evolved from a c1 - they have those "wings" simply to meet the letter of the law regarding waterline width. Otherwise, there isn't much point in making a wide section there.

Yes there is a point in making a wide section there. Consider the Whitesell Pyrhana.. an old cruiser from the '80's.

From what the BOB told me last month the flat area and bubble is to better allow a spin of the boat into an eddy when heeled. Its a fairly long boat, and while it has rocker having the flat bubble allows a precise eddy turn.

Now the homebuilt in the picture appears to be an Osprey ish lake tourer..and I bet that bubble is for heeling it on moving water.

I agree the cedarstrip has Osprey-like characteristics, full bow and stern plus the shouldered tumblehome. But overall, I'm not sure that it is actually a osprey. It could just be weird camera angles or even lens distortion but it doesn't appear to nearly as elegant a hull as the Osprey.

It's not an Osprey.. The Winters design does not have that squared off bubble. Homebuilders often fiddle with plans or perhaps the basic design was lofted off another stripper and the bubble added while the stations were being made.

I think the "bulge" in the midships section of that canoe was made to accommodate the lower body shape of the original owner. "Custom fit" if you will.
