Just because something looked kind of gold, does not mean Kevlar was used. Several other cloths and resins will yield a gold appearance.

But even assuming this is Kevlar, using just a couple of layers for a hull, without reinforcement by S-glass, leaves you nowhere. Even with wood ribs, to get adequate stiffness, one must use multiple Kevlar layers to make up for its deficient compression strength.

On the other hand, junk the ribs, use two layers of S-glass outside, and two layers of Kevlar inside, and you have a hull that is both stiff and tough.

I think your impression of this boat is seriously mistaken.

You could repair it and use it for rocky rivers late in the season, but your time is better spent on a better boat.

The weirdest canoe I have ever seen.
Kevlar can get old a brittle just like fiberglass. I don't think that boat is worth your time. It is too old and undependable. A wood and canvas boat can stand the test of time. Kevlar and fiberglass can't if they are outside a lot and mistreated or wrecked.
