I want to paddle the South Nahanni River, self guided, accessing the Moose Ponds by plane or possibly overland from the North Canol Road, a 3-4 week expedition. A crew is required. If you share this dream and have the time, skill and determination, reach out to me; we should paddle together this year or next and make a plan for the Nahanni in 2023 or 2024.

How many people in a "crew"?

Where are you located?

I suppose crew size will be what it is at the time. Ideally, and particularly if overland access, I would say 4 paddlers, 2 canoes, a group large enough to mitigate risk and small enough to move efficiently. Also 2 boats per canyon rig is ideal. I'm in SK, typically paddle northern SK.

Hi Craig,
I’m a whitewater canoeist, looking for new tripping/paddling partners for adventures up north. I hail from Haines, Alaska and have spent time on private wilderness canoe trips in the Yukon, Alaska and NWT. Since the border has been closed and I don’t anymore have a paddling partner, I’m wishing for someone(s) to paddle mountain rivers with lots of hiking. I have the time and resources to do longer trips.
Friends in a tandem did the portage from the N Canol to upper Nahanni about 3 years ago.
I’ve always wanted to paddle the Nahanni. Three years ago, we did the Broken Skull to Rabbitkettle and loved it.
I’m curious to find more out about you and your ideas, if you are still looking for travel partners.
Thanks!

Hi Craig,
my husband and I want to run the South Nahanni in this summer from Moose Pond to Virgina Falls. We will reach Moose Pond by plane. We are paddling two hard shell kayaks and have run a lot of multiday selfsupporting trips. After that trip we want to run the Broken Skull. Perhaps you want to join us.

It's great to see some interest in this thread. I've replied to backlagoon(Anissa) via email. I don't have the time for the South Nahanni project in 2022. Ideally I'm looking for those who might want to do it in 23 or 24. In the meanwhile, including this summer, would be good to get acquainted on some shorter trips with like minded paddlers. In 2022, I'm organizing a short June trip in SK and hope to be on the Fond du Lac or similar for 2 weeks mid summer.

It doesn't look like I'll be on the Nahanni in 2023. However I'm still interested in the overland access to Moose Ponds and paddling out to Nahanni Butte, which would take a month and include some suffering at the front end. I'm still looking for partners in this project and would consider shorter trips with any who think they might want to try the overland Nahanni access in 2024.
