If you enjoy Grey Owl's description of the little beavers that he took care of, you'll love . It's on sale at Chapters for about five bucks - now. I enjoy reading it and would think even a child from maybe age 10 on would love it as well.

Audrey Tournay lives in Muskoka and has an animal sancyuary: wolves, ducks, skunks, dogs etc - and of course beavers. Here's an excerpt from the book:
Quote:
Chapter 4: Beavers as Wildlife Ambassadors

Beavers are great talkers. They talk to each other. Sometimes, they mutter to themselves. When they are angry, they huff mightily. If they are involved in heavy work, they grunt. I cannot find a word to describe their everyday talk - it is neither a whine nor a whimper - both of which have unfortunate connotations. By the sound a beaver makes, its mood is easily interpreted. Rapid and high-pitched denotes anxiety. A rythmic quiet rise and fall is simply conversation.Sometimes, at the end of each "sentence", the tone will be raised as though a question is being asked, a conversation carried on. The beaver will pause for an answer and, once answered, continue talking.
The topic of such conversation maybe unknown to us, but the mood is not. Most of it is friendly, companionable. If the beaver is excited, it may be emphasized by clenched fists or by hand movements, with outstretched fingers and arms. An angry beaver's head will be low, breathing heavy and tail quivering, beating a tattoo as the anger increases....

Oh its a book !!!

It's a quaint read! Sitting for many hours watchin these little buggers in the rain and sleet and snow while waiting for a moose to walk by, it is funny to read the little oddities you have observed!
