Whether this is true fiction, I do not know but I have edited this post to reflect the possibility that this book is made up.

If indeed fiction, it is pure bad karma for the author, I don't believe things like this should be joked about...

On the other hand if it is true...it is one hell of a story.

I have done extensive searches on the net and have found one post by a Timothy Hammell on a wooden canoe forum in the states...this would add some credibility to the story but hardly explains if the book is fiction or not.

I can see how the book would be labelled fiction due to the content and circumstances however I cannot rule out that this is some cruel joke.

Does anyone know if the details in this book are true? The book is listed under fiction...

An extensive internet search on the authors name brings up nothing...

Bump if anybody has read this and would like to share their thoughts....I spent a lot of time researching the internet determining if this is a true story...I suspect strongly that it is...but very surprised I was not aware of it!

Sam - took a look via google preview - on the copyright page it does indeed say that it is a work of fiction. But after reading what I could it's pretty obvious the author is familiar with the river...I don't think you could make up what is surely an accurate description of the start of the trip. But the events of the trip are likely fiction. I'm sure you could email the publisher to see if they can give you the author's email.

It is about two paddlers who descend the North French River and the obstacles they face whether they are at times fact or fiction.
