Freestyle gets some exposure and satire on the Colbert Report. Featured in the story: Marc Ornstein and Jonathan Hammond. Freestyle segment starts at minute 4:10 of video clip.

Beats out soccer and the tactless LeBron James for elegance, excitement, and sheer heartfelt joy. Show even promises to cover some upcoming events throughout the summer … if folks are willing to play along and perhaps reach out to some of the show's producers. Spread the word, perhaps we'll see some extra cameras at a paddling event this summer?

Ogoody...Nancy Grace chasing Charlie Wilson at AFS next month!

Jonathan is now playing with bigger boats and guns. He is now an upperclassman in the Coast Guard Academy...

I got a "Dear Canada - so sad, too bad - can't see this" message.
Is there something I have to do?

To tell the truth, I am a bit shocked to find this out. Since these videos were grabbed from my YouTube channel without my permission, never mind Marc and Jonathan's permission, I just want to go on record to say that I am deeply disturbed by their lack of concern regarding copyright.

I am not the original owner of the content of these videos, they were passed along to me by the FS community in an attempt to ignite recognition and support for this activity. In fact, I'm not sure if anyone really knows who actually owns the content of these clips, but to the best of my knowledge, while they are on my YouTube channel they are not supposed to be used without my permission. The blatant double-standard used by the entertainment industry absolutely disgusts me. If the shoe were on the other foot and I were to grab taped segments of the Colbert Report and put them on my YouTube channel, they would be removed instantly and I might be facing criminal charges for copyright infringement.

I've a good mind to pull all of the videos, but since this coverage will likely give a huge shot in the arm to FS, I'll keep them up for now. As it stands, more people have now seen FS canoeing in the last three weeks than have probably seen all of canoeing in all of recorded history (who really watches Olympic canoeing?) Marc Ornstein has been viewed by over 300,000 viewers on my YouTube channel alone. With Colbert stealing and airing the stuff (and Daniel Tosh of Tosh.0 likely to follow), Marc will be seen by tens of millions of viewers. All I'm getting out of it is the pleasure of deleting hundreds of YouTube response e-mails every day.

Marc... you owe me a free DogPaddle FS paddle.

Also, I think it's about time to get Al out of detox and back into finishing those boats. I have over 300 vacuum-infused composite solo FS hulls awaiting gunwales and thwarts. :P

Thanks for the help! I guess I don't have much of a sense of humour.

I don't see it as offensive, or that it will draw people to the sport. But I'd have to agree with Ralph.

Colbert needs to go to a freestyle event and then he'll have some material....

You might be shocked at what the "Colbert Bump" can do!

He might just do it! His adventures in Speed Skating was a good laugh last year and he raised a ton of money for the US Olympic team.

Like him or not (I do) there is no joke about the effect of the Colbert bump.

Uh oh...don't know if the Adirondacks are ready for a star seeking population boom.

For those of you who lust after Marc...he will be in Meadowbrook Campground across the street from AFS.

July 10-14.

Something for all canoeists. It will take several years of eight hour a day practice for you to get on the Colbert Report. Being good does not come easy.
