I had to run up to the cottage Friday night to drain the water. (Note - even if the ground is thawed out at Easter, it's not safe to leave the water connected yet). The bonus for the trip was seeing a yearling moose and his mother browsing along Hwy 62. Momma was probably about 80 feet away from me when I started recording. She was a bit nervous of the cars going by but didn't seem too worried about us as she walked up to about 20 feet from us to get a drink.

I would never approach her that closely, but when she was wandering our way I took the 'stay still and don't startle her' approach.

Nice closeup of that creature - just watch those ears monitor the neighbourhood! Did it pick up your scent? Maybe not, I can see the wind shaking the cattails and its direction may have been favorable....

She came close enough that I'm sure she could smell us. She could definitely see us and the other dozen folks who stopped to take a look.

Lots of phones and cameras came out including the 4 guys from the truck pulling the ATV trailer. We hear the occassional report of a moose sighting down toward the cottage, but this is the furthest south that I've actually seen one. Everyone who stopped appreciated the treat. :D
