That was beautiful Dave. The melody and rhythm of the song flowed perfectly with the canoe travel. What was the music? The song reminded me of the McGarrigles. Thanks Dave.

It is "A Canadian Song" by Night Sun. My copy is from Canoesongs Volume II. It is also on their album Drive available from Borealis Records:

How is Muriel Lake compared to OSA and some of the other big lakes? Is it as beautiful? Any hiking access to The Gulch or The Dome? I'm considering staying on Muriel or OSA. Which do you prefer?

If I had to rate lakes, Id give OSA a perfect 10, Killarney Lake a 9.5 and Muriel a 6.5-7.

Its not a bad lake, its small and only has 2 sites, and the better site is a hike up a hill.
Muriel is is usually a go-to lake since OSA gets firmly booked up 5 months in advance as does Killarney L.

Its a good launching point to go further west and tackle some of the Quartzite peaks.

But if you are fortunate to have an option...OSA..and bring your mask , its like a giant swimming pool.

I've not been there yet and wanted to ask..... I assume it's easiest to park at the George access area and go George > Freeland > south east part of Killarney is you were going to OSA. The Carysle north via Norway is longer hillier less fun I'm assuming by the crappy parks map.

Either way you have to go through Killarney and OSA. We started from George Lake ourselves and the portages are shorter than if you started from Carlyle. The portage from Norway to Killarney is pretty flat but I don't know about the others coming from Carlyle.

thanks splake, I kind of suspected that by the map I had. Sometimes there too many blogs and infos for what should be simple and obvious once you have been there :)

cheers all

it's all subjective....I'd give Muriel a 10...but that is me.

Great hiking from Muriel, if you know where to go....
