Back North of La Ronge, Saskatchewan at a popular wild canoe/kayak camping area for this overnighter. It's looking like this will be my last canoeing video of the year. There's a small bit of CI, and what might be considered a CII, rapid running section in this video for those that are interested. Enjoy and if you watch it let me know if this one has elements you like or dislike over my other videos. While being mostly my usual fare, there are a couple of different things I included this time.

I really enjoyed your video. I liked the variety of shots you use. It must take a lot of work for you to set up the approaching shots and the going away shots but it adds interest for me so keep doing them. I like when you show some of the "everyday" tasks that one must do on a canoe trip.
I think that you should keep doing what you're doing.
Let me know if you want feedback on specific things.

@ Ralph : The everyday tasks are the hardest for me to shoot because I just want to get them done quickly. I do think they add a lot more interest to a video and I'll try to get a whole camp setup and fire/supper sequence all included more regularly. The approaching/departing shots are kind of fun to do, because you have to search out a spot for the camera and then hope you end up in the shot as you pass by. My Grasslands video was tough because the banks were steep and the channel narrow with nowhere to put the camera. So much footage was omitted; 52 beaver dam crossings, of which 20 or so were filmed and most didn't make the cut. As well I had so many shots from in the canoe looking forward, which is boring threaded together. Thankfully I got some different angles and wildlife content on that one. Thanks for the feedback. Finally had a quiet moment to see this vid... it's almost a half-hour and I'm glad I waited for some time spent uninterrupted. And wasn't disappointed... this vid will immerse you in the stillness and contemplation that's solo canoeing... high quality camera work throughout and the periods of near-silence make the watery sounds in the canoe, the twigs snapping underfoot at the campsite, rough porting, rapids, and everything else... it all works to raise the awareness of the time being spent all the more. The musical selections alternate with the environmental sound recording, and add to the overall effect.

GRS, it's a pity you won't be making more vids this year... this is the best yet. Quality time spent when one can't actually be out there.

I can't make another one now. The waters here turned to ice yesterday. I captured a lean helping of footage on an outing this past weekend when it was around 0*C, but not enough to work with. We hit a cold snap on Monday and we're at -8*C for highs which turned the rivers to crashing ice flows.

Thanks for the positive critique. You were very generous with your break down. A quiet moment is the right setting for these, I want them to be short escapes and take the viewer to a place of peace, relaxation and calm. If you get bored or tired and fall asleep, that's okay too. I heard somewhere that boredom is important and so is sleep. Thanks for watching!

Clever and delightful portage intro before putting hull to water as the film title emerges and the real journey begins. And yes, I enjoyed being slowly swept along with sparing use of alternating music and natural sounds to keep both eyes and ears into the trip. I'm sure it takes a lot of leg work and editing to shoot several views to keep things interesting, and your thorough work pays off. Shooting the fast water added it's own magic to an already enjoyable trip and film. Including the campsite was requisite to complete the story. And that's what I like most about your works, they are much more than merely another GoPro offering, they tell a story.
At least that's how I saw it.

That's funny, as it was, indeed, filmed almost entirely with a gopro. The only shot that wasn't is the scene with the bald eagle perched on the treetop. Good to hear that kind of feedback. You, like the other posters above, are quite generous. Thanks!

Hi,
I don't see a link in the original post but the link in your latest post works.

All the old Youtube links through the whole forum are gone. Same for any pictures that were uploaded as attachments. It is unfortunate, but the software is old. It needs a good refresh but that could cause a cascade of problems. I don't think there is anything you can do about the old YouTube links other than to replace them one by one with YouTube URL's. BTW I am no longer an admin here. Haven't done that for many years.

As I am also new to this, I don't know what happened to the old YouTube links. Regardless, the code for embedding is out of date. YouTube changed their code at some point and it was not updated here. I am working on it.
