Here’s a website for those who like to dream of lengthy expeditions.
Some may remember a poster “Wilderness Dave” who enquired in the NWT forums about the possibility of paddling up the Mackenzie from the Peel River to Norman Wells.
Actually, Dave is in the midst of a rather remarkable multi-year expedition called the North American Odyssey. A map of the expedition route can be found here:
http://www.wildernessclassroom.com/blog ... route.htmlBasically, it involved kayaking up the west coast from Seattle to Alaska, hopping over to canoe the Yukon, crossing the watershed to canoe the Peel, then canoeing up the Mackenzie to Norman Wells. This last winter they went by dog team to Ft. Resolution on Great Slave, and are now, canoeing again, near Lake Athabasca after paddling up the Taltson and Tazin rivers. Plans are to reach Grand Portage before the end of this summer.
Some great photos and stories from the trip to date can be found here.
