Those notes might make interesting reading.
Edit: I deleted a comment that could possibly be misinterpreted.
That aside, his books (including both volumes of Distant Summers) are a great read. I much admire him, George Douglas, E C Oberholtzer and the like.
Edit: I added Douglas and Oberholtzer.

I really like PG's writing but I'll pass on buying that one! :P . I've bought lots of books from Abebooks----at least the shipping is reasonable on that one. :D

Sleeping Island by PG Downes is my favourite book and a real classic.

Maybe someone will mine his margin notes and produce a story read.
