The canoe was blown off the storage rack in a huge windstorm. The outer gunwale broke at the centre thwart. We want to replace the whole strip. Suggestions?

I assume it's an ash gunnel. I buy 10' ash boards and rip 3/4 by 3/4 blanks, then splice them together with a long splice, 10" (with a homemade jig for my table saw) and Tightbound III glue. My tools are a cheapo Sears table saw, a belt sander and some other elec hand tools, nothing special.
Here's a video of me installing ash gunnels, it might help.

BTW, you don't need a lot of clamps, just as long as you have a clamp on either side of a screw you are installing and a few to hold the gunnel in place. Good Luck.
