You read that right.

I know how crazy that sounds. Would it be possible to paddle up the Fraser River from the mouth all the way to Yellowhead lake?

What major obstacles would you run into? About how much would simply be flowing too fast to run up?

If someone were crazy enough to do it, how long would that take?

Do a search for Mike Ranta. He started his 2nd cross country trip travelling up the Fraser. He also spent a lot of time portaging.

Can you provide me a link? I had no luck with a search of his name.

Looks like his website might be gone. Here are a couple of articles:

https://www.rapidmedia.com/canoeroots/c ... mike-ranta

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder- ... -1.3534165

He is still active on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mikerantaspaddle/

Thank you.

I still am not finding anything from him that is useful.

Yeah, the website for his 2017 trip showed the route being tracked by inReach and gave good detail at the time but he didn't start on the Fraser for that one.

Hopefully some of the BC folks can point you to more local sources.

Hey swimmer, you're my new favorite poster. Downstream paddles are for speed demons and freeloaders.

My $0.02 - I have not paddled the Fraser but I have traveled along some of it a number of times while traveling to BC and back. Thoughts: Much of the Fraser between Vancouver and Hope might be do-able but there appears to be significant current throughout and riffles/rapids where the current will be stronger.
Above Hope you will encounter the Fraser Canyon. From the road, much of this looks impossible to paddle. Some parts look impossible to paddle downstream. In some parts there is no possibility to go along the shore. There is probably a reason that Mike Ranta left the Fraser at Hope.
Skip to the last part above Tete Jaune Cache - some waterfalls, mostly very fast water punctuated by rapids with faster water. Rough, rocky, treed shore.
I have seen parts of the Fraser after Lillooet and my memory of those parts is some slower sections, some sections with fast water and some rapids.
As far as time goes, I have no idea but I believe that you would be portaging a lot.
Good luck.

I have done a few rivers up instead of down.

I have driven much of it too. I know there are some really nasty areas.
