Well its time..... the snow and hard water have arrived.
Time to start thinking about camping in the cold season.
Deep Freeze will soon be upon us.
For DF 2020 we are going to a new location. It is still in the Sudbury area but on the east side.
For many years we have all benefitted from the knowledge and skill of Scouter Joe. Whether it be poles, firewood, water holes or map discussion, it seems Joe has been there for all of us.
Well this year Joe is on the injured reserve list and if Joe can't make it to DF then why don't we bring DF to Joe ?
Joe has graciously offered up his property to us cold (and hot tent) campers with some sweet amenities to boot.
Joe has 50 acres of virgin forest, ~ 30km of hiking trails across from his front yard, sweet, fresh running water and firewood as far as the eye can see, well as far as Georgi can see. LOL
Feb 15-23 stay for it all or come and go as needed.
Bring your own stuff or mix it up with a couple others and share your space.
***Entrance fee is booze/beer to the first tent on the left ;)
we will plan a pot luck night (either wednesday or thursday night) inside a luxurious tarp shelter with lighting and there is an outdoor fire pit
There are approx 15 tent sites for hot tents marked out and tons of room for cold tenters. There is a thunder box somewhat central and for those who require more privacy, a rather decadent outhouse for those who need pampering. 123 parking spaces for vehicles give or take and an area for viewing the starlit nights.
since this is Joe and Carol's private winter residence, send Joe or myself a private message and we will give out the exact location for the winter extravaganza. (ask Joe, he knows where it is better than i do LOL)
Any questions..... ask away.
Hope to see everyone there.
If i have missed something then someone else update my info. :)
The site previously used is still available but you know you won't have any fun if you go there including a plowed parking space.

Well I'll be riding the big "sky" toboggan in from the "wet coast" for the soiree! Looking forward to seeing everyone in February!

Interested in going for sure. Might have some trouble getting away for the full # of days. Do the hot tent sites have to be "reserved"? Or is it unusual to have more than 15 hot tenters?

As a first time winter camper I am hoping to come up and gain lots of knowledge from all of you.

No reservations required. Come for 1 day or all eight. If there are more than 15 hot tents we can stamp out more. Just come when you can

I'd love to come up as well, however having never camped in winter, I have no winter gear aside from an army surplus cold weather bag. This seems like a really awesome opportunity to check out a vast array of gear, learn from the best, and see if I want to make a go of it in future years.

If someone else is so inclined and has room, I'd love to share the accommodations.

Wow! I am excited. Just over 2 months . How many sleeps, Bill? After my valve job in October of 18 I have been working out at the Y 5 days a week. I checked out my snowshoes yesterday. All set when we get more snow. DF 2020 is a bucket list trip for me. And others I make. I am planning to come on the 15th and stay. Well, at least for the pot luck. I am making a Thunderbox to bring.

Are snowmobiles acceptable? As a long time winter camper I would love to meet more like minded adventurers. But I am too old to give up pulling in my kit on my 78 elan.

Well Lucyford this year there is no hauling as we are camping in Joe's back yard ,so to speak. At most you may have to haul your gear 50 yards. Not worth unloading a snowmobile this year. Other years snowmobiles have been used and welcome.

Hey all..
As with the past 4 winters I won't be able to make it as I am in sunnier climes.. After spending an afternoon with Richard (yes that Richard) at Joe's house in late November I know that everyone will be well taken care of and Joe will be excited to see everyone winter camping on his property.. Great idea and down right proper of the Deep Freeze crew to honor a man who has been an integral part of this outing from the start... and I'm sure there'll be some special treats from Carol for all the Deep Freezer's who come to Deep Freeze 2020. Have a great time and remember...
"Ah, for just one time, I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin, reaching for the Beaufort Sea.
Tracing one warm line, through a land so wide and savage,
And make a Northwest Passage, to the sea."
