Planning a May trip in northern Ontario where night temps are likely around 0 C / 32 F. I would hesitate to take the Chinook fireside bag in anything less than 50F even though it's rated for 32.

Wondering what the lightest/economical option would be to make the trip do-able with this bag without having to buy a whole new bag. Or would you recommend buying a whole new bag?
Budget is 100-200 canadian dollars.

In shoulder season I use Sea to Summit Reactor liner - should be under Can$100. It's rated at 13F in added warmth. But I wonder if it's sufficient for northern Ontario in May. In my experience it could be colder than 32F at night even in south-central Ontario.

Long Johns, socks and a balaclava?

+1 and maybe add another balaclava as it really makes a difference when you can add layers during the night. A very lightweight inner bag will really make a difference too.

I find that a liner really adds warmth. What about an old thin summer sleeping bag, slip that inside and with a hat and buff you should be comfortable? At least until you have to get up and take a leak in the middle of the night!

Wear/sleep in long underwear etc. as mentioned.
Increase thermal insulation under you/better R value sleeping pad.
Decrease airflow around you/increase shelter protection from the elements/wind.
Add Costco Mountain Hardware quilt.

Eat something before you crash for the night, and use a cheap foam pad on top of your existing sleeping pad, then add a balaclava, long-johns, thick wool socks, and two 1 liter Nalgene bottles filled with boiling water (wrap them in cloth).

Cheap and effective.

Also anytime you feel it maybe a cold night ,very hot water or boiling, put into a nalgene will warm up your sleeping bag. You will not waste energy using body heat to warm your bag. We usually wrap the nalgene in a sock or t-shirt. Works wonders for a big part on a night.

This is fantastic advice! Thanks guys.

Any recommendations for Costco quilts? Heard a lot about them over on some ultralight forums/reddit but not sure what's available up here in Ontario.

Sorry - I've been trying to find it on the costco website but cannot. Nothing comes upwhen I search for quilt/down quilt.
