Thanks, Bill. Yep, we were surprised about the bugs, as well. Didn't bring the NoBugZone, who would have thought in August?! Locals were saying it had been the worst year for bugs in a long time. Water levels were also abnormally very high. It either rained or threatened to rain on 8 of the 10 days we were out there, so I'm guessing they were having a very wet summer contributing to the mosquito population.
True North, glad you enjoyed the read!

I'm happy to return the favour after all the wonderful trip reports you've posted yourself over the years. I really enjoy your website. Although I was born and raised in Peterborough, ON, I spent 19 years living in Asia and have travelled extensively around that continent. I have enjoyed your reports on some of your Asian excursions and admire a fellow travelling adventurer at heart.

Your Wabakimi reports helped me in my planning for that trip and I got in touch with Wabakimi Clem through your online recommendation. Thanks! Regarding the portage just south of Ogoki Lodge, it was easy for us to spot. We could see the trail leading up from the landing and could pretty much look straight through the woods to the opening on the other side. BTW, I had no idea that the other side was called Secret Lake! In fact, it seemed considerably shorter than the 111m that Paddle Planner marked it as. You must have had very low water indeed to have trouble reaching the take-out. Considering a trip down both the Allenwater and the Kopka next summer. Can't wait!
