In planning a trip down the Adlatok River I found in my research that it is illegal to fish above the 52nd in Labrador without a fishing guide present.

I was told by a Nfld. tourism person that this was more in place to ensure people don’t get lost and die in the remote rugged Labrador terrain and that there must be a special rule that applies to an experienced person fishing for some extra food on a canoe trip.

Can anyone share any knowledge/ advice on this?

If that is the case, is there someone from Newfoundland & Labrador who would be interested in coming along on this trip? Maybe we could work out a deal where I pay for your trip if you get your guiding licence or something.

Better question who's gonna stop you? Or really care? :D

I think it is more in place as a make work project.
Unless there have been changes recently, there are no special considerations for canoe trips.

An archaic bit of legislation, IMHO, that was ignored on our trips.
