Hi folks - per the discussion above, is there any updated info available on parking just off the shoulder of Global Tower road in order to access the Gibson? Google satellite appears to show a gravel parking lot just off the beginning part of the road (to the north of the road); am I seeing that right?

I plan to paddle the Gibson past Three rock chute and hook south to McCrae Lake.

There is space to park, but to go further there are gates blocking access. The area, however, is heavily signed "No Parking". Similar signage occurs on all the other roads in the local area until you get a fair distance from any put-ins. Bottom line is, how "risk-adverse" are you? With what appears to be "over-signage" in the area, I couldn't enjoy a trip while wondering if my car would be towed or vandalized while out there.

Thanks very much for the info - I’m the same... the prospect of my car getting towed would absolutely drive me crazy.

I also contacted the municipality on this issue, who gave me this response: “Global Tower road is not a municipally owned road, thus we do not do the parking enforcement on this roadway. There is not a lot of space in that entrance to the road area and it may interfere with private owners access to their property. I would suggest the municipal lot at Go Home Lake/ Minors Bay Road which you are allowed to park overnight as an alternative.”

We may use this alternative to be safe, but in essence, it cuts out 4km+ on the river in favour of a cottage lake.

We were there a few weeks ago. Explored all over the place, and finally parked at on S Gibson Lake Road at the municipal lot just across from the baseball diamond. When we got to the 400, the water was so low ( a trickle), and the rocks so roll-ey we decided it was to late in the day to risk breaking an ankle. Parking is free at the municipal lot at Potters Landing off Go Home Lake Road. Minors Bay Marina (with a well stocked store- and cuts 2 km off the trip) charges $10/ night. You park anywhere it is marked visitors parking, not the space number and go to the store to pay. You carry the canoe down to the launch area at the N end (curve) of the hair pin,up by the visitor parking. Still it is very frustrating to not be able to launch from the hiway.

The parking at Minors Bay is great. I go out of there quite frequently. The only time I've had issues there is on summer long weekends, where everywhere is totally parked up. I can be on the Gibson River in about an hour.
