I know this thread is old ...but I hiked up to the west shore of Long Lake through a trail off the Swift Rapids road and was wondering about all the aluminum boats that are scattered along the shores of long lake ...there are many of them and some look like they have been there for years. Has anyone been there and noticed this. I'm sure these boats belong to someone. Some of these boats look like they haven't been used in years, they are turned over and left along the shores. Does anyone know if these boats can be used for the day or weekend and if not would it be safe to bring your own and leave it.

Many of the lakes in Ontario have boat caches on them. Many have chains and locks as well. They do belong to various fishermen and hunters etc. Ive seen the boats on Long, and yes there are many. I travel around there frequently, by canoe, or on hikes. Personally, I would just bring my own boat, and take it back home with me. I thought MNR had enacted a new law regarding caching of boats on crown land, stating that they have to be removed at the end of each season, however enforcing such a law would be impossible. I see few, if any remote lakes that don't have a boat or 2 (or several) hidden in the bushes along the shoreline.

Long Lake has pickerel and muskellunge (or did) Smallmouth and largemouth are more common, although not up to my standards of fish every cast.
