Hi folks,

I went for a one nighter on the Gibson river this past weekend. The weather was perfect, and hardly any bugs (compared to what I was expecting). I had some issues with portages though.

We launched from the municipal lot near Miner's Bay arena. I originally planned to paddle west past Go Home Lake and Echo Bay, then south to the falls, portaging around the falls. The owner at Miner's Bay suggested taking the first left off Echo Bay and portage around the beaver dam instead. We did that, but actually ended up having to portage or lift over 4 times - 3 dams, and one bridge. On the way back we thought we'd look for the portage over the falls and try the original route, but after scouting up the hill over the falls, we lost the trail and went back the way we came.

Is there a portage around the falls? Does the "trail" take you deep into the woods, or is it closer to the water?

Any advice or maps would be super helpful. Google earth resolution over that area was hard to see.

Thanks!
Natasha

There is a well worn path. The main path goes into a campsite then ends. When you start the trail (coming upstream towards the dam) stay right, it goes past the railings and ends at a dock on Go Home Lake

Thank you!! We were looking for the portage on the other side! That explains it. :)
