Friends of Wabakimi (FOW) is pleased to announce a limited release of Volume Five in its series of Wabakimi Canoe Route Maps booklets that will eventually cover the entire Wabakimi Area.

Volume Five contains 21 maps that cover the northern tributaries of Lake Nipigon as well as 4 supplementary maps that depict the route from Allanwater Bridge up the Brightsand and Kashishibog Rivers to the headwaters of the Kopka River at Redsand Lake.

The coverage area extends east from Redsand Lake to North Ombabika Bay on Lake Nipigon and includes all of Kopka River, Collins River, Vale Creek, Badwater Creek, Big River, Linklater Creek and portions of the Wabinosh, Pikitigushi and Little Jackfish Rivers. Many of these routes connect with those that lie within Wabakimi Provincial Park depicted in Volume Three.

Each map is digitally produced in full colour on 8.5” x 11.0” high-quality paper to depict canoe route values such as the locations of campsites and portages. Accurately measured portage lengths are expressed in metres to make them compatible with topo maps. Locations of outpost camps and lodges are included where assistance may be obtained should an emergency arise. A descriptive title indicates the extent of the map coverage and the direction of flow of the main intervening waterway (e.g., Davies Lake to Ahleen Lake via Palisade River). Maps are uniform in scale and each overlaps adjoining maps for seamless coverage of a canoe route. Enlargement circles provide details of portages as well as the known locations of hazards or obstacles such as swifts, rapids and waterfalls.

Wabakimi Canoe Route Maps booklets may be ordered using the Retail Mail Order Form available at: http://www.wabakimi.org/maps/files/waba ... orm_v7.pdf. A discount equivalent to the postage and handling charge is available to FOW members. Make cheques payable to "Friends of Wabakimi".
