They are both under the parent cascade designs so I dont think there is a difference. In my experience the MSR bags are much more robust, but the platypus has two bags in the kit. Filling a bag works better than filling a water bottle.

We're local to the Kawartha Highlands and treat it like all other places we go for water.
I have an old PUR Pro-Hiker pump, now Katadyn, and it has served us well.
Leaving a pot of water on the fire to boil for 5 min also saves work. Just pour it into the water bottle after it cools down.
