... on my backyard fishpond today! ... on a more practical note, a number of fish hut operators on Lake Simcoe have removed their shacks and shut it down.

Getting a little dicey some lakes depending on depth of water. Insurance liability rules. We don't have to remove till Mar 31 and its iffy in some places. Most of our ice is still white and shows little evidence of candling.
We had high of 12 degrees today but northern Maine had more snow and minus 7 for a high.

Over three feet still up here. Going out ice fishing for the next three weeks to help out with the social distancing plans.

Was in self isolation out on Lake Simcoe yesterday. Ice was as little as 7" in spots though most areas were just under a foot - way less than normal. Shoreline is deteriorating quickly. Recent satellite pic shows Buckhorn in the Kawarthas has just about opened up. Things could move pretty fast this year.

Depends where you are. I expect the rivers south of Hwy 7 will be open in 7 - 10 days which would be early relative to most years.

You can check the conditions here:

https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov/?v ... 3A29%3A10Z

The last clear day with a good view was on the 15th with the next clear window coming up on the weekend. Thursday/Friday are the last nights in the next 14 days when temperatures will dip to slightly below freezing so things will start to break up very quickly after that.

Ice came off Big Hawk Lake in Haliburton @ 6:20 last evening (26/04/20) according to the marina.

Sunny day in Southern Ontario today. Hopefully we'll get a good look on the worldview satellite map
